Burgener challenges Anders

Canadian Alliance supporters in Calgary West can expect another exciting race after this weekend's national leadership convention is over. After spending seven years as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for the provincial riding of Calgary Currie, Jocelyn Burgener has decided to challenge incumbent MP Rob Anders for the riding's CA nomination.
"I had always committed to two terms when I first sought the nomination in 1993," said Burgener on her decision not to seek provincial re-election. "I feel part of politics is the turnover, you have got to have people who continually build up the community, represent it and move on." More...

Scouts get new perspective

Editorial - Scouting entered a new phase when Rover Troop 129 met for the Ūrst time on Sunday, June 18. The gay and lesbian troop cut new ground in an organization that is still coming to grips with the changing lives of men, women and children throughout the world.
Scouts employ three simple principles: "Duty to God, Duty to Others and Duty to Self." The latter two duties stand out most for Scout Troop 129. "Duty to Others" includes, "Loyalty to one's country in harmony with the promotion of local, national and international peace, understanding and cooperation, and participation in the development of society, with recognition and respect for the dignity of one's fellow-being and for the integrity of the natural world," while "Duty to Self," resonates harmoniously by advocating, "Responsibility for the development of oneself... in harmony with the educational purpose of the Scout Movement whose aim is to assist young people in the full development of their potentials." Claymation poultry gives US the bird 2000-06-22
After years of laying small golden eggs, claymation connoisseurs Aardman have finally hatched the big one--and it's no goose egg. Chicken Run, the first full-length animated feature from the Wallace and Gromit team, is one hilarious hen-house send-up.
Set in Bristol, England, the claymation film features a prison-like chicken farm complete with the warden-like Mrs. Tweedy (Miranda Richardson). Stiff looking and wide-eyed, Mrs. Tweedy bosses her coward husband Mr. Tweedy, (Tony Haygarth) into making her a chicken-pie machine.
