Telemarketers beware
2003-10-02

Editorial - The United States faces a great challenge to freedom this week as their National Do Not Call Registry was to come into force Wed., Oct. 1. The registry of telephone numbers telemarketers are not supposed to call, on penalty of hefty fines, was approved by Congress last year. Congress reaffirmed the registry last week in light of a court decision to stay the implementation at the request of telemarketers who challenged its constitutionality.

Break a Leg
2003-10-02

The scene opens with YOU, bewildered and confused. Stage right, the Performing Arts Centre. Stage left, the Pumphouse Theatres. Other venues emerge. YOU are in the world of theatre. YOU stand center stage, lost.
YOU: But where do I go? What will I like?
WORLD OF THEATRE: Enough shameless allegory. Let’s get on with the show.
[Calgary theatre companies enter stage left, assume tableau positions. The season opens.]

Golden Spatula: He writes, he illustrates, he stays late to help proofread, and he chases cows. Phil Bird is a man of many talents, all of which add together to make a well deserving recipient of the Golden Spatula.
