Director Departs
2005-03-03

After over 25 years working within the inner sanctum of the University of Calgary, Rhonda Williams, currently Director of the University Secretariat, is leaving. Williams, widely regarded by colleagues as an expert on university governance, is heading to the University of Alberta for the newly created position of Head of University Governance.

"It wasn't out of dissatisfaction," said Williams. "I wasn't looking for anything new, but along came a challenge that seemed to really fit with what I love to do. I get to build, realign, and pull together all the strands of governance there."

Prentice in the wrong: fundamentalists
2005-03-03

Letter - Editor, the Gauntlet:

Concerned Christians Canada Inc., a for-profit group, has started a campaign to remove Calgary North MLA Jim Prentice from his position because of his recent support of the gay marriage bill. Jim Prentice has decided to support the bill after talking to his constituents in Calgary North, putting aside his own values as a Christian. CCC is raising $100,000 for the campaign and has started a web site to collect donations (http://www.concernedchristians .ca/removejimprentice/content/index.htm). Homosexuality was removed from the "mental illness" list back in 1973, but this site includes questionable links to pages like www.hopeforhomosexuals.com.

Sweet end to a bitter season
2005-03-03

Hockey - With the playoffs as far from reach as a cure for cancer, the Dinos women's hockey team had only pride on the line. They played their final two games Feb. 17-18 and didn't go quietly into the night.

Thursday night's game was against the second best team the ACAC had to offer. The Red Deer College Cougars had shamed the Dinos in their previous meetings, but not on that fateful Thursday. Eager to kick off spring break the right way, the Dinos played a tough defensive game, keeping the third-highest scoring team in the league to just one goal.

Music Interview: No need to Crtl+Alt+Delete
2005-03-03

Music - Somewhere in a dark basement, a punk rocker leans back in his chair and flips on the TV. It doesn't sound like anything special, but this isn't any regular basement and this certainly isn't any regular guy. Sitting amongst thousands of dollars of equipment in his own recording studio, Casey Lewis checks out the first ever music video by his band, The Failure.

"We just sent this out to MuchMusic," Lewis says, eyes glued to the screen. "We're pretty stoked about it."

NUTV Does Documentaries
2005-03-03

They began shooting in late November, continued throughout December, and then it was time to edit. Numerous proposals were submitted, however, only four were selected. This selection meant the opportunity of a lifetime--an opportunity for first time documentary film makers to create their eight minute masterpieces. So, that's just what they did.

Founded by NUTV and inspired by NUTV Producer and Program Director Tinu Sinha, the Documentary Field School gives first time doc makers a chance to gain and develop essential skills. Now in its second consecutive year, the doc school has provided its members with valuable experience through workshops and meetings with industry professionals.
