Think Ink
2009-11-05 -

Ashley Bettcher, a petite and adventurous student, couldn't wait to get tattooed the moment she turned 18. Although the thought of having a needle in her arm had always terrified her, nothing could stop this budding tattoo collector from getting inked.

"I have the personality [of someone] who will eat the same bowl of cereal for like a week and a half," she said. "It's just been my nature. Once I start enjoying something, I kind of embrace it a little too much."

Olympic Oval in action for summer training
2009-07-23 -

It came as no surprise when the Olympic Oval couldn't afford to keep its ice this year.

SU Reviews: VP Academic Pamela Weatherbee
2009-04-16 -

SU Reviews - Just as centaurs always think of their pack, Students' Union vice-president academic Pamela Weatherbee continues to make academic programs and services an advantage for students. She may not have the upper torso of a human and the lower body of a horse, but her stamina, incredible strength and wisdom make her comparable.

One of her best accomplishments this year is the finalization of the Co-Curricular Record, an official document that showcases University of Calgary students' volunteer experience. Through this, students have the opportunity to share their extra involvement with graduate or professional schools and potential employers. As a result, almost 2,000 students have signed up for the extra transcript since the pilot started in January.

Post-secondary schools receive operating boost

Alberta's 2009-10 budget has received much criticism for both funding cuts and deficit spending. Some Calgary city council members are concerned it will also lead to a delay in infrastructure funding.

On the other hand, university and college leaders are happy with the recent change since they will receive the six per cent operating boost they were promised. This will help increase enrolment and continue infrastructure expansion plans, even though the province is devoting less to the cause than in the past. The province will spend $485 million on higher-learning infrastructure this year, half of what it invested in 2008.
