Dinos ready for national tourney 2010-03-11 -
Curtis Taylor Gauntlet Sports
Volleyball - It all boils down to this. After months of intense practicing, hard fought matches and enduring bus rides, the Dinos have the opportunity this weekend to define their season. The Canadian Interuniversity Sport national championships go at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops this weekend from March 12-14. It is a weekend that has been circled in the Dinos' calendar all season long.
After dropping a five-set thriller in the CanadaWest semifinals to the Trinity Western University Spartans, the Dinos bounced back against the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack to win the CanWest bronze medal this past weekend at the University of Alberta. More...

Briefs - Women's wrestling narrowly misses out on second national championship in a row
The Dinos were only two points behind the Simon Fraser University Clan for the women's title when the Canadian Interuniversity Sport wrestling championships wrapped up Saturday at the Jack Simpson Gym. The Clan took both the men's and the women's titles in their last season in the CIS. Next year they move all their sports teams to NCAA division 2. More...

Hockey - The Dinos men's hockey team's playoff dreams ended in dramatic fashion after losing a best-of-three series against the top seed University of Alberta Golden Bears last weekend. Both games were not short of controversy as the Dinos were forced to play all three of their goalies.
The Dinos lost the opening night match-up against the U of A by a final score of 5-2. At the 18:39 mark of the third period Golden Bear Lee Zalasky collided with Dino goaltender Dustin Butler, was forced to leave the game because of a leg injury. Fifty-three seconds after the initial collision, Dale Mahousky questionably collided with Dino back-up goalie Jeff Weber. Weber responded with some physical play and was given a match penalty and a suspension for his actions. More...

| Play some football to celebrate St. Paddy's 2010-03-11 -
Jon Roe Sports Editor
Maybe for this St. Patrick's Day, instead of dressing up like a leprechaun and wittily asking members of the opposite sex to kiss your Blarney Stone, you should celebrate the holiday with something authentically Irish (other than whiskey and Guinness, of course), like Gaelic football.
Gaelic football is the world's oldest known sport still played today and has been played for centuries by Irish boys and girls representing their towns. The game is typically played 15-on-15 on fields slightly wider and bigger than rugby pitches, and is best described as a mix of rugby and soccer. More...

Basketball - While everyone else vacates Vancouver post-Olympics, the Dinos men's basketball team fly into the city for the end of the conference post-season. The Canada West final four between the Dinos, the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies and the Simon Fraser University Clan begins Friday with semi-final games between the Clan and Dinos and the T-Birds and Huskies. All games take place at UBC.
The Dinos earned a spot after sweeping a surprisingly close series against the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns in Calgary. More...

| Dinos look for strong individual performances at CIS championships 2010-03-04 -

Track - Despite failing to claim a Canada West team title in Edmonton this past weekend, the Dinos have high hopes for their individual athletes heading into the Canadian Interuniversity Sport championships in Windsor, Ontario March 11-13.
The stars of the show were Amonn Nelson and Sam Effah, who both swept their individual events. Nelson won both the 60- and 300-metre races, coming close to the Canada West records in both events. Given her training this year, that is an impressive feat. More...

Introducing the Leaders 2009-03-12
Hooliganism is an ugly word, associated with crowd violence in British and South American football. It's associated with fans' passion for a team getting out of hand. Now the University of Calgary Dinos have their own hooligan, the Leaders.
Loved by the Dinos men's basketball team and other Calgary fans, but hated by opposing teams, these 12 to 30 students have been showing up to Dinos' basketball games, waving their red and black scarves while making enemies with their antics and drums since 2007. But are they a hooligan group or an enthusiastic fan club who get over-excited with too much booze?

During the playoffs the bleachers become crammed full of parents, friends and hockey fans, all looking to help the Dinos achieve victory. A boisterous crowd at the Olympic Oval cheered the Dinos to a 4-3 victory over the Mount Royal Cougars on Friday. There were fans dressed in Dinos jerseys, a man with a red wig banging away on a water jug and a lady emphatically ringing a cowbell.
"It makes it fun to play in front of a lot of people who are cheering you on," said Dinos assistant captain Ali Webb.
