Tent City kicks off Affordable Student Housing Action Week from Sept. 29 through Oct. 1 to raise awareness for the need of affordable housing for students. Students will camp out on the MacEwan Student Centre east lawn for a few days in order to draw attention to the lack of affordable housing available to students.

With the high demand for residence, students are often left without a place to live on campus and hope to find a place to live near the university, claimed Students' Union vice-president external Alastair MacKinnon.

"Students face crippling challenges when looking for affordable housing when coming back to school," he said.

The action week starts off with the forum, "Opening New Doors: Delivering Affordable Housing for Students," with guests Affordable Housing Minister Yvonne Fritz, and Ward 11 Ald. Brian Pincott on Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. in the south courtyard of the MacEwan Student Centre. Discussions and forums will allow students to express their opinions on the challenges and solutions for finding affordable housing near the university, said MacKinnon.

He hopes students come out, get engaged and participate.
