A fusion of Alexisonfire-esque electric guitar, simple and effective beats, and just the right amount of distortion making you think this could be the beginning of a great song, maybe even an amazing CD. Then, Sleeper Set Sail vomit all over themselves, spewing the cheesiest lyrics since 98° (the group that rocketed Nick Lachey to minor-stardom); "Darling won't you join me out here on the balcony? A million moonlit sparkles... without you I am lost at sea." Don't join him on the balcony.

Book it home as fast as you can and leave him to hurl himself off the balcony, under the mystical, sparkly, midnight sky.

Their music is good, although obviously influenced by other bands (Alexisonfire is thanked in the credits) and the vocalist is reasonably talented, so if you are satisfied with surface-level bands look no deeper than Sleeper Set Sail.

However, this is only a "compilation sampler" and SSS offers some lyrical intensity in the last 20 seconds of the final track, hopefully a hint of better things to come in summer when they release their debut full-length.

Maybe the SS Sleeper just needs to sink itself before it can come up with metaphors beyond the profundity of '90s boy bands. Otherwise, let's hope they drown like a basket of kittens.

#1 - The album is called a FOREWORD, not a FORWARD... you might want to fix that before you start putting them down. Maybe alexisonfire ripped them off. Both bands are from St. Catherines and they were friends when they all lived there and are still friends today. Casey Baker from SSS even wrote a song on Dallas Green's (singer/guitarist of AOF)album. Maybe Sleeper was the original and AOF just made it big first? Do some research before complaining.

#2 - This review is terrible, I think you need to start doing research on the bands you write about and listen to alot more music. Look into doing this the next time you decide to type and vomit all over the screen with your uneducated banter.

#3 - keep in mind that a review is an opinion, so i can pretty much cough up whatever i please. my taste in music is not going to be altered by research or musical education.

#4 - This is the worst review ever. Please never write another review for an album again!!! Maybe if you appreciated good music you would actually see that Sleeper Set Sail is one of the most talented bands around.

#5 - So... they sound like Alexis eh? HAVE YOU EVER LISTENED TO ALEXISONFIRE? Lyrics are cheesy eh? You only quoted one song, what about the others? So they should all die and stop making music because you don't like them? Sure, cuz I only know 74653687656 people who love them, I'm sure they would agree with you. I accept that you don't like them, but it doesn't mean they should stop making music.

#7 - I find if funny how my last comment was deleted for being too abusive. When this whole review is an abusive comment on its own. Just for future reference, it would help to learn even the SLIGHTEST amount about what you're trying to make fun of BEFORE the fact.

Have a nice day, and try not to make anymore pretentious comments without a knowledge base...

#8 - hahaha 98āˆž??? you wish they were as bad as all those old boy bands but theyĆre not, theyĆre great, so please stop abusing bands like this that are obviously better at writing stuff than you are

#9 - Obviously you don't have any credentials to be writing albulm reviews. First off SSS sounds nothing like Alexisonfire, theyre simply mentioned as influences in the credentials because they happen to be great friends, nothing from SSS reminds of Alexisonfire. Secondly theyre one of the best bands around, they're technicaly sound beyond any other band out there, very few people are as good at their instruments as they are. Theyre lyrics are deep beyond your simple understanding and they actualy write them unlike 98 degrees or any boy band. SSS has cds for sale at all hmv locations and in for great things. By the way dont ever write another albulm review you dont know a thing about music.

#10 - This is the dumbest piece of shit I have ever read. Take a deep breath and pull your head out of your ass. You have NO idea what you are talking about except when you say Casey (vocalist) is talented. They hardly sound like Alexisonfire and you would know that if you have ever listened to Alexisonfire. Please get rid of this lame ass review and write something truthful and worth reading otherwise don't write at all. You're the worst critic I have ever encountered and this review was a total waste of my time.

#12 - jaime..your review is your opinion..but do some research before you do review..you spelled the album name wrong, you compared them to alexisonfire(while alexisonfire is screamo, and sleeper definately isn't) you compared them with 98degrees..who suck. and you only said things about one song..i'm surprised this review hasn't been taken down and burned..cus you did a pretty bad job of it..reviews are supposed to be fair, and they're supposed to have an unbiased opinion, whereas here, right from the start you stated that you hated it. sleeper set sail is amazing, maybe if you listened to the whole album and not just lifejacket(which doesn't have CHEESY lyrics) then you would be able to write a decent review. but i guess the thought slipped you mind eh? i wish i could recommend you to be fired.

#13 - UHM..have you listened to Lifejacket? How does it sound like 98 degrees? HOW? and Alexisonfire?? I'm sorry, but Alexis and Sleeper are both very talented bands and how can you compare them to eachother..or a boy band. Please do some more research. Thanks.

#14 - yeah one other thing.. not only does your review suck, you have no idea what makes good music.. and i suggest you find someone else to make review because it seems like a lot of other Sleeper and Alexis fans are pissed off.

#15 - I love how u think that they should stop making music, yet it sounds like who every wrote this couldnt right a good review let let alone a good song. Im not sure you have ever herd a song other then the one you refered to, which by the way, is called "Life Jacket" but i think you should be compairing Alexisonfire to sleeper set sail.

–Tonnis

#16 - u should probubly buy the accual album befor u rip it up in a review, or at least lisen to more then one or two songs. sleeper set sail and alexisonfire are both amasing bands and you have no right to bash either one... what was your last amasing album called?
this is the worst piece of shit iv ever read and i think u should go to hell and take this review with you.

–Tonnis

#17 - ^^^ ...because writing songs, music and stories are directly comparable...

#18 - This is a pathetic excuse for a review.
Maybe you should actually listen to the whole record and base the review on it as a whole, instead of just basing it on the beginning of Lifejacket.
And learn how to spell while you're at it; it's A FOREWORD not A Forward.
Alexisonfire and Sleeper are both really talented bands.
However, you are definately terrible at writing reviews.
I'm in grade nine, and I could write a better review than you.
Comparing Sleeper to 98 Degrees is bullshit.
So do us all a favour and shut up while you're still ahead.
