After staying in Texas for five months, Corb Lund realized that all he really wanted to write about was where his roots truly sink: deep into the soil of the Southern Alberta prairies. Five Dollar Bill is real country music, written and played by someone who knows all about the real country lifestyle. The title track starts off with Lund recounting tales of bootlegging alcohol into the States during prohibition. What really makes this a first-rate tune is the twang from the steel guitar and an up-tempo beat which makes you, at the very least, start bobbing your head to the beat. Corb Lund and his rock/country/jazz band consisting of Kurt Ciesla on string bass, Ryan Vikedal and Harry Stinson taking turns on the drums, and many guest appearances, show their exceptional skills while telling tales of the cowboy life. With songs of buckin' horses roaming the prairie grass, whiskey in the bars and roughnecks on the rigs, this CD exhibits Southern Alberta pride from a truly Southern Albertan band.
