Do you remember high school, when the teacher made the class write poetry, and everyone laughed at what the jocks wrote? Kutless' new album is exactly like that.

If you feel inclined to buy this album anyway or have made the mistake of already doing so, don't worry. It makes for quasi-decent background noise (or a coaster in a pinch). The sound is like cheap, second-hand alt-rock, mixed with all that is common about bands like Default and the clone army that sounds just like them.

If by some slip up you pay too much attention to the music, you may notice that almost all the songs sound the same. That's because they are. It should be mentioned that this is also from the label Tooth & Nail, and though it's certainly not Christian-punk, it is most definitely Christian.

So if you've got a hard-on for pious bands, then go ahead and pick this one up. Just don't expect too much from the music itself. Otherwise, treat this album like those crazy doomsday guys downtown and just keep walking.

#1 - The name Kutless actually comes from Isaiah, from the prophecy "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed." (-53:4) The idea is that as Christ was whipped and broken open, dieing on the cross for us; in our salvation we are those watching from the foot of the cross, untouched... without the cuts of God's wrath, Kutless.

Many of the songs quickly made it in my prayers and this cd is in no way boring: that is unless you feel nothing towards Christ... heh probly why the earily person wrote as he did, for many of the lyrics easily shook me numb and made it into my prayers. Although it's mostly rock with some hard songs: Stu the bass player switches to violin for one of their most moving songs, a song of Christ singing to us... one I have never heard like it; everytime we turn on the T.V. it's just like we're running from God... o we never think of it like that, but you know that feeling of dread you get when you think of reading your bible? Right now even? heh, and that's only a scratch on the surface.
The fifth song is a hard rock song, with twist of Rap; definitly not repeative... and the last song ends with a soft piano, with extra female vocals.
The funniest thing is that this is one of the rare bands that although their recording is awesome they sound almost 5x better live, even with a semi bad set ups... I heard the newsboys at the same concert an they sounded worse; this is one of the cds where you see them live and they steal your heart, and the more you listen to them the more they grow on you... heh I started out not caring for them at all, but now they're my favorite band.
