Mark Counsell is back on the Students' Legislative Council. The former Operations and Finance Commissioner spent the 2002-2003 academic year away from politics and failed to regain his post in this February's election.

Counsell replaces acclaimed Academic Commissioner Marie-Claire Backhaus who resigned in May.

After Counsell was sworn in at the Tue., June 3 SLC meeting, SU Vice-President Academic Demetrios Nicolaides confirmed that he "is expecting to receive a resignation shortly."

In addition, the Students Academic Assembly filled three vacant faculty representative positions on Mon., June 2. Mitesh Thakrar was appointed as the Medicine Faculty Representative, Wilma Shim will become the Kinesiology Faculty Representative, and Jamie-Dee Petersen is the new Education Faculty Representative.

#3 - The SU's standing nominating committee, is sooo biased in their decisions. Should this have really be chaired by an executive member or any SLC/SAA member. I think this committee like the student awards board was should be from Students At Large. Maybe be difficult to implement, but the process in place now is way to biased.

#4 - How so?

If you are referring to any "bias" in Mark's appointment, all I can say is that SNC did not pick him at all.

#5 - Thanks Laura Shultz for your sappy welcome message. The Truth is the students have spoken... they said, no we do not want Mark Counsell in the SU. He did a bad job before and he does NOT represent students, he only represents himself. Welcome to Armageddon, welcome to a world of misspending of students money. I will tell you why Mark Counsell was appointed, Beth Price Academic Commissioner is Mark's wife... she was one of the biased votes that also included the SU Cactus Demitrios Nioladies who is Gavin's B!tch! Please forgive me if I misspent anyone's name... oh wait I don't care! Now for some more rationale, Gavin Preston, disgraced VP OPFI, found in violation of several SU bylaws was Mark running mate in the election. What a gift, an appointed position. All I can say is, wait until the by-election... Mark will be gone again, until someone else resigns, and he is appointed again.

#9 - Oh, I just thought I'd clarify something. Mark Counsell was not picked because Beth Price is also an Academic Commissioner. Mr. Counsell was selected from a range of very skilled and competative candidates, but the selection in the end came down to several important categories, which any employer would look for. When we interviewed the candidates we looked at any previous experience, (not necessarily SU experience)they had, knowledge (both of the SU and campus issues), personal goals and personal qualities, including such things as enthusiasm and initiative....

I don't understand how Beth Price represented any bias when she wasn't even in the country when the selection took place, and I can assure you that I conducted the interviews in a professional manner. Of course you might not take my word for it, but ask anyone in the SU if my professionalism and my dedication to my job is an issue.

#10 - Disgraced! I feel dirty. Perhaps its due to the bullshit that you just flung at me.

AMC got as many votes as I did, but apparently you believe that was due to Edward Tse.
