Ian Kinney, poet and Gauntlet volunteer, debuts poetry collection “Air Salt”

By Gayathri Peringod, November 22 2019 —

“Ian Kinney fell seven stories, and he survived,” begins the About section of the debut collection Air Salt, a hauntingly beautiful trauma memoir by the Robert Kroetsch Award short-listed poet and longtime Gauntlet volunteer Ian Kinney about his journey recovering from the fall. In the collection, Kinney stitches together hospital brochures, nurses’ charts and EMS reports to reconstruct the incident, using poetry as neuro-rehabilitation in the wake of his fall. Air Salt had its official book launch last Saturday (Nov. 16). Our volunteer photographer Hesam Rezaei went and documented what happened.

The book launch took place at Shelf Life Books, a local bookstore on 4 St. S.W. // Photo by Hesam Rezaei.
