Entrepreneur Anthony Ascue is running for Calgary City Council in Ward 7 under the A Better Calgary (ABC) Party, positioning himself as a candidate focused on fiscal responsibility, community safety and support for local businesses.

Ascue is the CEO of Wild Rose Property Solutions, a company that offers property management, renovation and janitorial services across multiple buildings in Ward 7. Before starting the business in 2021, he worked as the online director of CDI College’s sales and admissions team.

In campaign statements, Ascue criticizes the current council for not doing enough to support small businesses, saying he entered the race because he is “tired of the politics” and wants to restore confidence in local leadership.

The ABC Party, led by president Gord Elliot, describes itself as a stand-alone municipal organization without a party line, despite Elliot’s involvement with the Alberta First Party and the Conservative Party of Canada.

While Ascue’s campaign stresses fiscal responsibility and small business recovery, it lacks the policy depth and municipal experience needed to deliver on those goals.

His background in property management offers some practical insight, but little evidence of familiarity with the complexities of city governance. Without a clear platform or record of civic involvement, his candidacy feels more reactionary than reform-driven.

For Ward 7’s students and residents, Ascue’s promises of renewal may sound appealing, but without concrete plans or proven experience, their feasibility remains uncertain.

To vote in Calgary’s municipal election, you must be at least 18 years old, a Canadian citizen and a resident of Calgary on election day.

On Oct. 20, voters can cast their ballots for the city’s next mayor, as well as the councillor and school board trustee representing their ward.
