Samuel McFetridge
Samuel McFetridge is a first-year student in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program (DVM), having previously completed three years of undergraduate biochemistry.
McFetridge, running uncontested in this election, also served in the Calgary Association of Veterinary Students and has built ongoing connections within the cohort. McFetridge decided not to interview with the Gauntlet, so this is what veterinary medicine students can expect from his term based on his online platform.
Advocacy sits at the top of McFetridge’s platform, with plans to actively advocate for Veterinary Medicine students by listening to student concerns and ensuring they are communicated to the appropriate faculty members and Students’ Union (SU) representatives. It is unclear what exactly McFetridge means as he would be one of those said representatives; however, his commitment to ongoing discussions and outcomes is quite admirable.
McFetridge’s platform expresses his desire to strongly advocate the perspective of Veterinary Medicine students in the discussion around tuition increases and the costs associated with it, particularly around fourth-year clinical rotations. How specifically he plans to do so is not explained in his platform.
Finally, McFetridge plans to increase the accessibility of information to Veterinary Medicine students, particularly due to the faculty’s location at the Spy Hill Campus, which doesn’t receive the same support and engagement as our main campus. McFetridge looks to bridge that gap, but how exactly he plans to do so is also missing from his platform.
Overall, it is evident that McFetridge cares about his fellow students over at Spy Hill, but his platform would benefit from explaining how precisely he looks to help them.
