SLC meeting addresses updates with regard to the previous senate meeting

By Danijela Marcinkovic, October 9 2025—

On Oct. 7 the Students’ Legislative Council (SLC) had their weekly meeting.

During this meeting the senate presented topics covered in the last senate meeting.

Firstly, the University of Calgary’s 60th anniversary is taking place in April of 2026, and with that many activities will be taking place. There will be a 60 stories in 60 weeks social media campaign that will be launching this October until December 26th. This campaign will showcase historical exhibits across campus. Stickers of various depictions of campus history are being made. Community impact reports are expected to come out early 2026.

Second, the university identified key advocacies this academic year. Establishing a more sustainable funding model of Alberta’s post-secondary institutions was discussed. Along with this, a brand new research data institute was announced.

Other things discussed were securing capital expansion funding to accommodate continued development, promoting a distinctions based approach to federal international students, international student caps ensuring that universities of reasonable prior growth are not penalized by across the board limits.

The senate also mentioned that the university anticipates the expert panel report will be released on Oct. 9th.
