SU general election: Law representative
Mickail Hendi
Mickail Hendi is a student in the Faculty of Law, running to be the next faculty representative. Hendi runs uncontested within the race, and decided not to interview with the Gauntlet.
Hendi served previously as an executive in 2021 as the Vice President Operation and Finance of the Students’ Union in their undergraduate degree. Hendi also previously served as the Student-at-Large Board of Governors Representative in 2020.
Hendi is no stranger to politics. In addition to his terms with the SU, they ran for the federal New Democrats in the riding of Foothills during the 2019 federal election, garnering only 5.74 per cent of the vote, as well as for President of the Students’ Union in 2023, garnering approximately 36.1 per cent of the vote.
As outlined in their platform, Hendi believes in bringing awareness to what the Students’ Union does for the Faculty of Law, and believes in the importance of advocating for more direct resources and opportunities given to Law students. He says that being in the SU is a net positive for Law students and “plans on finding ways to maximize this.” How exactly he plans to do this is yet to be seen in his platform.
Overall, it is unclear as to why Hendi wants to serve again in the chambers of the Student Legislative Council, but it’s clear he would like to launch a quieter comeback. Hendi would benefit students by giving more clarity in their platform.
