Photo Recap: Folk Fest Saturday

By Miranda Krogstad and Melanie Woods, July 24 2016 —

Though a few sparse drops of rain fell late in the afternoon, it was a sunny Saturday at Prince’s Island Park for the third day of the 2016 Calgary Folk Music Festival. We hit up some of the day’s most exciting collaborative workshops.

Members of Ayrad, Jerusalem in My Heart, the Lemon Bucket Orkestra and Yemen Blues with Ravid Kahalani came together late in the morning for the Ancient to the Future workshop on Stage 4.

Dozens of musicians from the four groups put together a multi-cultural performance that included influences from Eastern Europe, Morocco and Israel.

Also sharing the stage at the Mullets, Beards, Barrettes jam was Calgary’s own Michael Bernard Fitzgerald.  If you haven’t had the chance to experience his heartfelt and hopeful tunes, make sure to catch him at the Defining Moments workshop Sunday at 4:20 p.m. on Stage 2.
